  • Kuvaus: An Italian of Greek origin, ex-sergeant Nicola Mantsolini, talks about the Occupation on a TV show. He was then the provost marshal in the village of Pano Rachi, and the love for his mother’s country made his see its inhabitants with abundant sympathy. By contrast, in the adjacent Kato Rachi, the person occupying the same post was a hardened Nazi, Max Himler. The inhabitants suffered under his rule. There were several conflicts between the two men, the most important concerned the beautiful teacher of Pano Rachi, Niki, with whom they were both in love and whom Max decided to ask her to marry him. Nicola, despite the objections of Niki and the president of the village, decided to impersonate her mother and refuse on her account, but the trick didn’t work. To avoid a war between the two villages, the Italian officially announced his decision to make Niki his wife.
